Un-fucking-believable

Disclaimer

Received this little gem in my email today from my grandmother, who received it from my father and is gleefully sending it out to friends and relatives far and wide:

The Pope is visiting DC and President Bush takes him out for an afternoon on the Potomac... sailing on the presidential yacht, the Sequoia. They're admiring the sights when, all of a sudden, the Pope's hat (zucchetto) blows off his head and out into the water.

Secret service guys start to launch a boat, but Bush waves them off, saying, "Wait, wait. I'll take care of this. Don't worry."

Bush then steps off the yacht onto the surface of the water and walks

out to the Holy Father's little hat, bends over and picks it up, then walks back across the water to the yacht and climbs aboard. He hands the hat to the Pope amid stunned silence.

The next morning the topic of conversation among Democrats on the Hill, CBS, News, NBC News, ABC News, the New York Times, Hollywood celebrities, and in France and Germany is: "Bush Can't Swim."

This crap makes me so angry I can't see straight. Perpetuating the myth of the liberal media, when these days the only way liberal Bush-haters can even get a word in edgewise is to start up a brand new radio station! (Which kicks ass, by the way. If you're not listening to Air America, you should be.)

Right off the top of my head, I'm unable to come up with ANY scenario in which GW has done something positive and the media has spun it badly. Hell, I'm not coming up with any scenario in which GW has done something positive.

Yet my very own relatives are sending this kind of trash around in email, and they're all chuckling in a wise and knowing manner as if THEY ALONE are too smart to be fooled into believing all those pesky negative facts about their beloved leader. It's sad, they think, that this godly and patriotic man takes such a beating in the press for such tiny little foibles as lying about WMD's, and misdirecting hundreds of millions of dollars Congress had allocated for the Afghanistan war on terrorism to the Iraq war which hasn't got a bloody fucking THING to do with terror, or at least it didn't before we got there and held the door open for the terrorists to waltz right in and help themselves to the smorgasbord of young American lives Bush and Co. so thoughtfully delivered right to their doorstep to save the terrorists the trouble of coming all the way over here to kill us.

I wonder what my Rah-Rah Republican relatives think of these 9/11 hearings, specifically that Bush can't seem to go in there all by himself like a big boy without Cheney's supervision, or the fact that they are refusing to testify under oath?

Is this not a big, blinking sign flashing the message that Bush and Cheney are planning to lie? What other reason could they possibly have for not testifying under oath? If they are going to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, then they have no reason not to swear to it, right? And if they are NOT planning to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth...

THAT IS CALLED LYING!

And doing it under oath would be perjury which is a crime, but I guess plain ol' garden variety lying must be the equivalent of keeping your fingers crossed behind your back...it doesn't count. At least as far as being bodily thrown out of office or in jail, anyway.

With all these really-truly, honest-to-God scandals on the scale of Watergate floating around, all my family and god knows how many other ignorant fucks can find to pass around in email is a joke whose punchline doesn't even make fucking SENSE in light of the facts.

Guess we wouldn't want facts to interfere with the election of a godly man. May the pushers of the Christian agenda rot in the hell of their own making.
