Last night the Evil Childe had still not arrived home from school by the time the Prince came in at 7, but I didn't worry too much about it because a)I was pretty sure I knew where she was and b)I was happy to have the house to myself for a change. Bad mommy, I know. Turns out I was right about where she was... but that's not really relevent to the story anyway. I did start to get a little irate that she hadn't called or left a note, and I said to the Prince that we probably wouldn't hear from her until 10 when she'd call in a panic and insist we HAD to give her a ride because "Mo-oooooom....it's after curfew!" But I figured going to get her at 10 was kind of a small price to pay, actually, for an entire evening of peace, so I sat down at the computer to play for awhile. The Smashing Pumpkin's song "Disarm" (which I love) popped into my head for no particular reason, and I was humming along under my breath. A minute or so later I got up intending to do something and for a second I couldn't remember WHY I had gotten up, then I realized I had gotten up to go get in the car and pick up the kid. Then I remembered she hadn't called yet. Just at that moment the phone rang. It was the kid, of course, wanting to be picked up right then. I went on out to the car, The Smashing Pumpkins still jamming out in my head, and when I turned it on, "Disarm" was playing on the radio. Freaky, man.
