so, were you writing this entry about you, or me? congrats on finally stepping up and making the therapy appointment too. it's the best way to start heading in the right direction. (at least, that's what my therapist told me) :P

How does a person live with chronic pain? You just do...well, that or drug and drink yourself into a coma. I chose the former...although I've often considered the latter. :-)

First, thanks for the compliment! Definitely going to be LA the Big Head for a while yet! Second, living with chronic pain is sort of like living next to a busy highway, you learn to deaden yourself to the noise. You have to. If you go gonzo at every whonk of an air horn or screech of brakes then you can't do anything but simmer with fury about the disruption in your life. Pain is always there, but you aren't 'aware' of it with your top mind. Just like your ears hear, but don't pay attention to the highway noise. Crappy metaphor, but I guess you'll see what I'm saying. Third, I wore my blubber as both punishment and prison for 8 years. Doing time and guaranteeing I'd never wander off the track again. So I understand what you're saying very well. Good luck with therapy! ~LA

Yes, but toothaches and earaches are actually some of the worst pain you can have. (Yes, I know. I've never given birth. Don't hold it against me!) I've read/heard that this is because the nerve centers are so close to the brain. I can function better with a migraine that makes me want to slam my head into a wall than with a toothache.
